New — built for small teams that still touch paper

the matrix

Print. Scan. It files itself.

The Matrix stamps every printed page with a proprietary QR code. Drop the scans back in a watched folder or mailbox — they sort themselves by document and page order, every time. No manual naming, no filing tray, no "who had the invoice last."

The problem

Paper still shows up. Your filing system doesn't.

Every team we've talked to deals with the same three things.

Scans pile up unnamed

"Scan_20260422_141203.jpg" tells you nothing. By Friday the folder has 180 of them and no one wants to open the lot.

Teams hunt for paperwork

Signed contract? Delivery docket from Tuesday? The search becomes a group activity. Customers wait while you look.

Filing is a job no one wants

Renaming and moving files is dead work. It gets pushed to the end of the day, then the week, then never.

How it works

One install. Three steps. Deterministic.

No cloud uploads, no AI guessing, no manual rules to maintain.

Print through The Matrix

Install once. The Matrix shows up as a printer in every app — Word, Excel, Xero, your ERP, anything that prints.

Every page gets a signed QR stamp

A small code in the corner carries the document ID and page number. It's cryptographically signed — nobody else's scanner app can forge or read it.

Scans self-sort, in order

Drop the scan in the watched folder (or email it to the Matrix mailbox). Pages group themselves by document, in page order, with the original filename restored.

Features

Built for real offices, not demos.

Cross-platform

Native installers for Windows 10/11, macOS 12+, and Linux (AppImage). Same license works on any OS.

Works with any scanner

If it produces a PDF, TIFF, JPG, or PNG at 200 DPI or better, The Matrix reads it. No TWAIN drivers, no SDKs.

Watch folder or mailbox

Point The Matrix at a Dropbox/OneDrive folder or give it an IMAP mailbox. New scans process within seconds.

Proprietary codec

Signed, tamper-evident codes. Your competitor's scanner can't decode your documents, and random scans from the wild don't contaminate your inbox.

Per-seat licensing

Pay for the number of people who actually print and scan. Cancel any month. Take your files with you — they're just PDFs.

Offline-capable

All processing happens on your machine. No documents sent to our servers. Works on a boat, a mine site, or a plane.

FAQ

Straight answers.

Does it work with my scanner?

If your scanner produces PDF, TIFF, JPG, or PNG at 200 DPI or higher, yes. That's every scanner we've tested over the last six years — Fujitsu ScanSnap, Brother ADS, Epson WorkForce, Canon imageFORMULA, HP OfficeJet, and every multi-function in an office. The Matrix reads the file the scanner writes; it doesn't need a TWAIN driver or an SDK.

What if the scan is rotated or crooked?

The QR stamp is designed to be read at any rotation, up to about 15 degrees of skew, and at resolutions down to 200 DPI. If the page is upside down or sideways, The Matrix reorients the PDF automatically. Page order is driven by the stamp's page-number field, not the scan order, so reversed stacks still land correct.

Can I use my existing barcodes or QR codes?

No — The Matrix uses a proprietary, signed codec, not generic QR. That's deliberate: it means random barcodes on forms and shipping labels don't get mistaken for Matrix documents, and your filed output can't be forged by anyone without your license key. If you have existing coded documents, reprint them once through The Matrix.

Is there a free trial?

Yes. 14 days, full-feature, no credit card required. You'll get a license key by email, install it on any supported OS, and can process unlimited pages during the trial.

How does licensing work?

Per seat, per month. A seat is one person using The Matrix on up to three of their devices (laptop, desktop, home). Add or remove seats any time from the billing portal — charges prorate. No contracts beyond the month you're in.

What happens if I cancel?

The app keeps working through the end of the paid period, then switches to read-only: existing files stay where they are, no new stamps are issued. Everything The Matrix has produced is a plain PDF you already own. There's nothing to export.

Is my data sent to your servers?

No. All stamping and sorting happens locally on your machine. The Matrix talks to our servers only for license validation (once a week, with a 30-day offline grace period) and to download updates. Documents never leave your network.

Which operating systems are supported?

Windows 10 and 11 (x64), macOS 12 Monterey and later (Apple Silicon and Intel), and Linux (AppImage for glibc-based distros — tested on Ubuntu 22.04, Debian 12, Fedora 39). Same license works on any combination.

How fast is it?

Stamping adds essentially no time to printing. On the scan side, The Matrix processes roughly 500 pages per minute on a modern laptop — the scanner is almost always the bottleneck.

Do you offer an on-prem or air-gapped version?

Yes, for Business and Enterprise customers. The license validation component can be pointed at an internal server instead of ours. Contact us for details.
