Drop scans in a folder. Matrix files them.
Matrix watches a folder. Reads the barcodes and text. Splits scans into separate files. Renames them. Saves each one where you told it to. Runs every five minutes until the folder is empty. Or pause it from the system tray and every process stops.
No AI bills. No cloud. No fees that grow with your volume.
A$29/mo. 14-day money-back guarantee. Cancel any month.
Built for the people buried in scanned work orders, permits, timesheets, and invoices — maintenance planners, site admins, supervisors, contractors. Anyone who'd rather drop a stack and walk away.
See it work in 15 seconds
Drop one page or two hundred. Matrix does the same single pass. Splits on barcodes. Names each file. Saves it to the right folder. This demo uses sample documents I prepared. Your real paperwork stays on your computer. You only get the install kit after I configure it for your docs.
AI tools can sort documents. Most people won't bother.
Setting up an AI doc sorter is a job. You pick a model. Get an API key. Write the prompts. Handle the responses. Catch the times it files an invoice under the wrong supplier. Most planners, supervisors, site admins, contractors and tradies don't want that job. They want to scan their paperwork and get on with the real work.
Building this thing burned thousands of dollars in AI training. I ran that work on a local AI on my own machine. Not in someone else's cloud.
The output is a config file tuned to your paperwork. After that, your install runs without any AI. Same scan, same result, every time. No tokens. No prompt tuning. No usage dashboard. No monthly AI bill that grows with your volume. An AI sorter at 50 scans a day costs A$15 to A$100 a month forever. Matrix is A$29 flat. Scan 10 pages or 1,000. Same price.
Scan. Matrix files it. Offline, deterministic, A$29 a month.
Same scan in, same file out. Every time. No AI in the data path. Nothing goes to the cloud. Just hours back every week, tuned to your paperwork.
You still pull the staples and feed the scanner. Matrix takes it from there.
Same scan in, same file out.
Matrix splits on barcodes and runs each page through a recognizer set built from your real samples. Not a probabilistic classifier. Same input, same output. That's why IT signs it off (nothing leaves the machine), why compliance signs it off (no AI in the data path), and why an audit can trace every filing decision back to the provision.json.
Multiply your volume by the minutes.
Manual filing takes 2 to 5 minutes per scan. Multiply by your weekly volume. That's the time you get back. Every week. Forever. The table below does the maths for you.
One install, tuned to what you scan.
Email me as many sample documents as you have. The more the better for accuracy. I build the recognizer set against your forms, your work-order and barcode prefixes, your folder structure. The install is yours, not a generic taxonomy. Same A$29/month whether you're a maintenance planner, a site admin, a contractor, a sole trader, or any office that scans stacks of paperwork.
Hours a month you spend filing by hand.
Rows are your filing volume. Columns are minutes per scan today. Amber means over 40 hours a month (a full week). Red means over 160 hours (more than one full-time person).
| Docs / month | 2 min/doc | 3 min/doc | 5 min/doc |
|---|---|---|---|
| 200 sole trader | 7 hr | 10 hr | 17 hr |
| 500 small office | 17 hr | 25 hr | 42 hr |
| 1,500 my team | 50 hr | 75 hr | 125 hr |
| 3,000 per shutdown | 100 hr | 150 hr | 250 hr |
| 4,000 department | 133 hr | 200 hr | 333 hr |
| 10,000 company | 333 hr | 500 hr | 833 hr |
A$29 a month, flat. IT signs it off. Your hours come back. Same install for any trade or office that scans paperwork.
Three steps. Then you forget it's there.
Email your sample docs
Send 3-5 of the documents that fill your scanner each week to setup@chunkland.com. Real PDFs, real paperwork.
Get your install kit in 24-48h
Licence, a provision.json hand-tuned to your samples, and a double-clickable launcher for your OS land in your inbox.
Drop scans, done
Drag a scan into the watched folder. Pages split, files name themselves, and they land in the right folder. Anything unfamiliar parks in UNKNOWN.
Watched folder in. Sorted documents out.
Three jobs. The same three jobs, every time you drop a scan in.
Watches a folder
Point Matrix at ~/Matrix/inbox or any folder you choose. Including a Dropbox or OneDrive folder. New scans process within seconds.
Splits multi-page dumps
That 200-page PDF the office scanner spits out? Matrix reads each page, groups pages by document, and writes one PDF per real document.
Names & files
Filename and destination folder come from the patterns I tuned for your paperwork. Supplier name, document type, date, reference number, whatever fits your filing.
Loud failure, never silent
If a page doesn't match a recognizer I confirmed, it lands in UNKNOWN. You see it. You email me. I add the recognizer. No silent misfiling. Ever.
Cross-platform
Native installers for Windows 10/11, macOS 12+, and Linux (AppImage). Same licence works on any OS.
Offline-capable
All processing happens on your computer. No documents sent to our servers. Works on a boat, on a flight, or on a remote site with no internet.
Your scans never leave your computer.
The only things that ever leave your machine are licence pings. Not your documents.
Local processing only
Splitting, naming, and filing all happen on your machine. There's no document upload endpoint to leak from. One doesn't exist.
Setup samples deleted in 30 days
The 3-5 documents you email me are kept long enough to configure your install, then deleted. Nothing else ever leaves your computer.
7-day offline grace
Matrix validates your licence online once a week. In between, it works without internet. No telemetry, no document data in those calls. Only a licence ID and machine ID.
You can leave any time
Everything Matrix produces is a plain PDF you already own, in folders on your disk. Cancel and the files stay exactly where they are.

Use at work? Matrix runs locally on your computer. Your files never leave your device. Before installing on a work computer, check your employer's IT policy on personal software. You're responsible for ensuring you're allowed to use Matrix with documents you process for work.
Straight answers.
Does it work with my scanner?
If your scanner produces PDF, TIFF, JPG, or PNG at 200 DPI or higher, yes. That's every scanner we've tested over the last six years. Fujitsu ScanSnap, Brother ADS, Epson WorkForce, Canon imageFORMULA, HP OfficeJet, and every multi-function in an office. The Matrix reads the file the scanner writes; it doesn't need a TWAIN driver or an SDK.
How does setup actually work?
Email setup@chunkland.com with as many samples as you have of the documents you handle weekly. Invoices, work orders, statements, whatever fills your scanner. Within 24-48 hours I send back an install kit configured for those exact documents: licence key, a provision.json, and a double-clickable launcher for Mac, Windows, or Linux. You install, drop a test scan in the watched folder, and it sorts into the right place.
What if a scan doesn't match anything?
It parks in a folder called UNKNOWN. Loud failure, not silent misfiling. Reply to your setup email with the page and I'll add a recognizer. Usually inside a day.
My documents don't have barcodes. Does this still work?
Yes. Two paths. If you can stamp barcodes onto documents you generate yourself (work orders, your own invoices, internal forms): I'll supply a barcode template keyed to your filing scheme. PDF stickers or a print overlay. About 30 seconds to set up per doc type, then every scan auto-files. If you can't change the source documents (supplier invoices, government forms, mail you receive): Matrix falls back to OCR plus a recognizer set built from your samples. Same setup, same A$29/mo. Tell me what you scan and I'll pick the right fit when I build your install.
How many pages can I scan at once?
As many as your scanner can feed in one batch. 20, 200, or 500. Matrix watches the folder. The moment your scanner drops the multi-page PDF, Matrix picks it up, splits it on barcode boundaries, renames each one, and files them. One pass. No page-by-page clicking. The whole stack arrives sorted.
Practical numbers: a full ADF feeder. About 50 pages on a desk multi-function. 100 on a ScanSnap. 250 on a production scanner. One button press for you, one sort job for Matrix.
A page has no barcode. Is it an attachment to the doc before it?
Often yes. A work-order packet might be page 1 with the barcode and pages 2 to 5 of sign-offs, photos, or supplier dockets that came back without a header. Matrix handles two cases:
- Stapled in the same scan batch: the orphan pages ride along with the keyed parent automatically. They file as a single PDF under the parent's name.
- Scanned separately, after the fact: the orphan parks in
UNKNOWNwith a one-click action to attach it to the most-recently-filed document of a matching type. The original PDF gets the orphan appended. The original filename stays.
Either way: the page never gets lost, never gets renamed wrongly, and you stay in control of the merge.
Can I use Matrix at work? Do I need admin rights or IT approval?
Admin rights: no. Matrix installs into your user profile. Runs as you. Watches a folder you pick. No system-level changes, no elevation, no managed-deployment package.
IT approval: yes, same as any new software at work. Hand your IT team the install kit and the privacy summary (offline, local-only, no telemetry, no cloud upload). It runs entirely on your machine. Your files never leave your device.
Check your employer's policy on personal software before pointing Matrix at work paperwork.
Is there a money-back guarantee?
Yes. 14-day money-back guarantee. Pay A$29, use it, and if it's not right within 14 days, reply to the setup email for a full refund. No forms, no questions.
What happens if I cancel?
The app keeps working through the end of the paid period, then switches to read-only. Existing files stay where they are. No new sorting happens. Everything Matrix has produced is a plain PDF you already own. Nothing to export.
Is my data sent to your servers?
No. All sorting and filing happens locally on your machine. Matrix talks to our servers only for licence validation (once a week, with a 7-day offline grace period) and to download updates. The samples you email at setup are kept for 30 days then deleted. Nothing else ever leaves your computer.
Which operating systems are supported?
Windows 10 and 11 (x64). MacOS 12 Monterey and later (Apple Silicon and Intel). Linux (AppImage for glibc-based distros, tested on Ubuntu 22.04, Debian 12, Fedora 39). Same licence works on any combination.
Can I run it offline?
Yes. Matrix validates your licence online at first launch, then enters a 7-day rolling offline grace period. Sorting and filing keep working without a network connection. Re-validate online once a week to keep grace rolling.
Built by one person. Supported by one person.
I built Matrix because I hated splitting 200-page PDF dumps and renaming scans by hand. I'm shipping it in public. The version you install is the same code I run on my own desk. If something breaks, you reply to the setup email and I look at it. No support queue. No ticket triage. No-one in between you and the person who wrote it.
ChunkLand makes tools for people who'd rather do the work than fight the paperwork.
Matrix is the first one. Built for planners, site admins, supervisors, contractors, tradies — and anyone else who scans stacks of paperwork for a living. One person builds them, ships them, supports them. Same person you email at setup@chunkland.com.
More coming. Same model. Local-first, no AI in the data path, flat monthly price.
Email your sample docs.
Send me a stack of the documents that fill your scanner each week. The more the better for accuracy. I configure a Matrix install around them and send it back inside 48 hours.
